How do I create topics?

You create topics by clicking on the create new topic link on a topic list. You must have an account of at least level 5, and have viewing access to the board to create new topics. The only exception is message board announcements.


How do I create messages?

You create messages by clicking on the create new post link on any message list. You must have an account of at least level 3, and have viewing access to the board to create new posts.


What are applet points?

Applet points are a ranking system that measure seniority and activity on the message boards. You gain on applet point each day for logging in and posting at least one message. You can lose applet points by breaking the tou. The amount varies by the severity of the violation.


How were these boards made?

Appletland Messageboards were made with a custom-made source code. You can download it here.


What are user levels?

User levels are a way to show how active a particular user is. As you gain message points, your rank will increase. This will give you access to more message boards. The user levels are as follows:

-5: Denied
User has been denied activation. Cannot post messages.
-4: Closed
User has closed his/her account. Cannot be restored.
-3: Pending Closure
User has marked the account to be closed. Will be closed in 48-72 hours.
-2: Banned
User has been banned for many TOU violations. Cannot post messages.
-1: Suspended
User has been suspended for one or more major TOU violations. Awaiting administrator decision.
0: Inactive
User has not been activated yet. Pending review by a mod/admin.
1: Locked
User's account has been compromised and all privileges have been removed to prevent abuse. Must contact an administrator for reactivation.
2: Timed Suspension
User has been suspended for a set period of time for a severe TOU violation. Cannot post messages.
3: Probation
User has been placed on probation for a major TOU violation. Can post 5 messages per day, no topics. Restored after 72 hours.
4: Restricted User
User's applet points have fallen below zero. Can post 0 topics, 10 messages per day. Any further violations are an automatic ban.
5: Provisional User
User has been activated, but does not have full posting privileges. Can post 5 topics, 20 messages per day. Upgraded to regular user after 72 hours with positive applet points.
20: Regular User
User has full posting privileges.
21: Drunk
User will most likely post violations at the rate of 2 per minute. Not immune to moderations however. User may also flame randomly.
22: Awesome
User is confirmed as being awesome.
25: Long-Time User
User has achieved 100 applet points. No new privileges.
30: Old Account
User has achieved 250 applet points. No new privileges.
33: Elite User
User has achieved 500 applet points. No new privileges.
38: Legend
User has achieved 800 applet points. No new privileges.
40: Maxed Applet Points
User has achieved the maximum applet points of 1000. No new privileges.
60: VIP
User is recognized as being an asset to the site. No new privileges.
67: Secret Admin

70: Moderator
User can delete marked messages and suspend offending users.
80: Elite Moderator
Moderator has some administrative powers
100: Administrator
Administrators have full control over the message boards.


I created an account. How do I activate it?

An administrator will review the account and decide whether to activate with full priveledges, activate with partial priveledges, or deny activation.


I found a message that violates the TOU. What should I do?

Click on the mark for moderation link beside the message to report it to the moderators. They will then take appropriate action on it.


I was unfairly moderated. How do I let the moderator know.

If you think a moderation was unfair, you can challenge it by clicking the appeal link next to the moderation in your moderation history. Also, you can only appeal a moderation once. Once you send the appeal, it will go back to the moderator with your explanation. They will then choose to uphold or overturn their decision.


Topics are disappearing for no reason. Have we been hacked?

No, that is the topic purge. Once a topic is over 30 days old it will be erased from existence by the ever hungry purge monster. Moderations will also be purged at the following rate:
Can I be a moderator?

No. Don't ask. Moderator applications will be available when moderators are needed. If you really want to be a moderator, you can apply here.
